A mini-split going into Flagler County is sized and installed against a climate that runs equipment hard on a regular basis. 197 severe weather events were recorded in Flagler County, Florida between 2015 and 2024. At that rate, a contractor setting a system here has to treat capacity, placement, and line-set quality as local questions, not defaults pulled from a spec sheet. A unit that is marginally sized for a calmer area will be undersized here. Getting those decisions right at installation is what determines how the system performs when the weather pushes it.

The electrical panel in a Flagler County house is where a mini-split installation tends to get complicated. Half the homes in Flagler County, Florida were built in 2002 or earlier (2020-2024 ACS 5-year). Housing built around that time was wired for a different generation of cooling equipment, and a new mini-split draws power against whatever that original service can supply. A contractor will open the panel before pricing the rest of the job, and what they find there determines whether the install moves forward cleanly or whether the electrical work expands the scope.

The Mini-split Components a Contractor Installs

Isometric line illustration of a cutaway house with two rooms, each with a wall-mounted indoor air conditioning unit connected by lines to an outdoor condenser unit on the ground outside.

The indoor air handler mounts high on a wall inside the room being conditioned, where it draws in room air and delivers treated air back into the space. The outdoor unit sits on the ground or on a bracket outside the home and houses the compressor and condenser coil, doing the heavy mechanical work of the system.

A refrigerant line set runs through a small penetration in the wall to connect the two units, carrying refrigerant between them. A condensate drain line runs from the indoor unit to route moisture out of the house, and a power and communication cable ties the indoor and outdoor units together so they operate as one system.

The drawing shows a typical layout, and a licensed contractor determines exactly how each component is positioned and routed for your specific home.
